Tom Milsom + Guests:☯JUNE ☯
Circle of Fifths -Reactor Halls E05YAY!GUYS
They sound great, I’m really happy with it. You’ll get yours soon!
Or at least I hope so. I emailed the guy who deals with it to say I’m happy to go ahead, and got an out of office autoreply. So I emailed the girl I deal with otherwise and it turns out she’s away too.
I’m so alone ;___;
I’ve been looking at Tom’s sites trying to find an announcement of this, and I fail. BUT it’s up!
Detail:
(notice the clock this time says 6:00)
Do you know what’s going on with Explorers 6 yet?
I’m just curious, not impatient and want to know if I missed any sort of announcement.
I don’t know why I thought vinyl processing would be effortless and without issue
but there have been two separate occasions where they’ve not contacted me and ten days later I’ve said ‘hey are we doing this or…’ and they’ve said ‘oh yeah fuck sorry we need the files/artwork now’
so long story short it’s definitely on its way but it’s also severely delayed and for that I apologise
so I just chased up the vinyl processing people to ask them what was taking so long and apparently they’ve been waiting for me to send them the tracks but forgot to inform me of this fact
wow excellent
do you ever think the world would be a much better place if everything was run by carbon copies of yourself
scabaret replied to your post: so I just chased up the vinyl processing people to…
You mean they haven’t even been made yet? Ouch.Nope! This is literally fucking awful and I want to cry
vondell-swain replied to your post: so I just chased up the vinyl processing people to…
they seemed like such decent peopleI think they are decent people who’ve just fucked up a bit
Like, the guy I was initially dealing with went on holiday for a week the day after we started talking so I rang them up and made sure I was transferred to a new guy (who’s the guy we were dealing with) but now he’s gone on holiday for a week too! So I’ve basically just been thrown about from person to person god this is so doubleplusungood
ah god i hate this there’s basically nothing I can do apart from sit here and wait for them to get it done
god
why is dealing with other people always such an ordeal
Hello! Thank you for the compliment!
No question is a stupid question, I only knew it was definitely going to have six tracks because I attended what ended up being a preview party of the album on blogtv back in November.
Bandcamp having albums is still a new feature and I think they haven’t bothered to install an algorithm that says “this person already has the download”.
So you got it sent to you if you pre-ordered it from the time it was put on bandcamp to the release date, and again “on the release date” (mine is sitting in my e-mail right now).
Because that’s actually how a lot of the other one’s work, my Mink Car Cover download link did not get sent until the actual release date.
(and side note, she mailed the first orders of that one 40 minutes ago!)
So yes, it’s only six songs, and yes the downloads are the same.
Oh, and even though the release date was the 20th, it’s not going to actually be mailed to us for at least another week.
Blake
Yeah, OK, check your e-mail everyone, because Tom SHOULD have sent everyone who pre-ordered the mass mail telling us that it’s going to be later than originally planned. (I received mine the 19th.)WOOOO
I’m a little confused about the download for Explorers Six though. It says “Preorder now and download the download full album on 20th September” but it’s 40 minutes away from being the 23rd.
two other ones that are gonna be made are nothing feels as good as skinny tastes and the explorers 6 cover art
thoughts?
Whoa, whoa. I’m sorry if you felt that was a personal attack on you. No where do /I/ say you didn’t know it was.now that alex put out soup sessions on vinyl, will dfba let tom release explorers 6 as a record?
bc i want it as one (and more importantly, i’m pretty sure tom wanted it as one) and if alex’s can come out limited edition, can’t they do it for tom?…
Ok, but if you would have followed my second posting i mentioned that i did know it is out and on bandcamp, but i think what you’re saying is a bit condescending. i don’t consider myself a passive fan — im a big follower of tom’s music and his career as an artist. At the same time, though, i’m not a rabid fangirl that feels the need to follow fuck yeah blogs and obsess over gifs of tom’s face. the point i was making with this was just trying to question why dftba can make alex’s record and not tom’s, and i’m sorry if that wasn’t clear in the original post, but i’d appreciate not being relegated in the tom milsom “fandom” for not following your blog and his presence on every single media site. I’m a huge fan of Tom’s and just wish i could afford to buy his record, so please don’t bite people’s head off for not being as much of an “active fan” as you are
sorry if I’ve been a little confus(ed/ing) about this whole thing! It all happened a long time ago and obviously things suddenly surfaced over the past two weeks and it’s all been a little confusing trying to piece it together
but what you should take away from this is that DFTBA are top people at what they do and they couldn’t do what I wanted them to do and yeah everyone’s basically really nice and you should view them as such.
I don’t really understand what’s happening here but here’s what’s transpired from my point of view
- I sent an email to Alan last winter asking if he wanted to release Explorers 6 on 12” vinyl, and he said the costs would be prohibitive and
DFTBA couldn’t do it.No, I recall that it was something about how they’d have to buy new envelopes and everything and so if it were to go ahead they’d have to take a much larger percentage of the profit than they do from my other releases, and it would have meant I wouldn’t see much from it.- It was no biggy, and what Alan said was reasonable, so I just went about getting it done myself and successfully released it a few weeks ago.
- This week, DFTBA are bringing out Alex’s Soup Sessions EP out on… 12” vinyl.
- People are confused about why this has happened.
I understand that there’s confusion, but I ask you not to be angry, because circumstances change and different artists can sell different amounts of a product and that can often change the commercial viability of something like this. DFTBA is, after all, a company, and they have to do things that are going to be profitable.
Also, I’ll be honest, I’m still really happy that I went it alone with this one. The distribution’s gonna be a bitch, and there have been hiccups, but it’s been really useful to go through the entire process first hand, and I’ve made more money out of it than I would have if a label was taking care of it. I also think I’ve ended up with a better product by working closely with Vondell on the album artwork and sleeve notes, instead of letting someone else take care of it. I’ve spent a long long time crafting my own piece of art, and I think it’s gonna feel a thousand times more amazing when I hold it in my hands than if I just sent something off to a label and they took care of it all.
Tweets:basically what I’m saying is nobody’s really angry here so if you could all stop getting on at Alan for not releasing Explorers 6 that would be great. Gonna tweet this too

bc i want it as one (and more importantly, i’m pretty sure tom wanted it as one) and if alex’s can come out limited edition, can’t they do it for tom? like, even really limited, only 100 copies or something if they’re afraid there’s not enough demand.
I am genuinely alarmed at the number of people who don’t know that Explorers 6 IS available as a record from my bandcamp page.
I’ve blogged about it extensively, tweeted about it extensively, and made videos talking about it. Do you guys have any other ideas as to what I can do to reach people about this? Because it’s frustrating that people are finding out about Alex’s record just because it’s on DFTBA; people who want Explorers 6 but simply don’t know it exists.
the cover artwork
tom’s name is the epitome of all the evolved items since it’s in the bottom right corner
i can’t decide if this is relevant or just because it looked good there.
1) it was relevant
so it’s some sort of symbol of tom being more complex than the 3D shapes? or being some sort of master over the items on the cover?
2) just because it looked good thereit looks good there
